ART: Ianto again (G - Torchwood)

Title: Ianto Portrait
Rating: G
Fandom/Character: Torchwood/Ianto Jones
Notes: I am fascinated by Gareth David-Lloyd's face. His features are so distinctive, so odd and alien and beautiful. I drew this sketch from memory. Not sure how it came out. I think he kind of looks like one of those Precious Moments figurines.

eh?

On the phone with my mother yesterday ~ I am talking about the ridiculous number of Barbie corpses for purchase at the local used goods stores & and how it's a great example with how our ecomony has gone sideways and what's wrong with society... and she suggested I start collecting them together for some artwork, take out my snarkasitc social commentary on
them and have an artshow.

*0__o.....one side of me is horrified that my mother is even remotely interested in my interest in dolls...let alone doing a show.

The other side of my brain, where my imagination lives, is having a field day getting medieval on the little Barbie asses and other body parts.

It is NOT normal to be walking around town and contemplating the perfect method by which to dissect a Barbie head and/or attach it to other materials ~ or perhaps the best method to burn barbie hair and body parts...

...at least I don't think it is.

FIC: Five Hundred Fathoms (POTC - G - Norrington/Elizabeth-ish)

Here is the final part of my CaptainoftheDutchman!Norrington trilogy. I'm not as fond of it as I am of the other two, but I wrote it, so I figured I'd post it.

Title: Five Hundred Fathoms
Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean
Pairings: Norrington/Elizabeth, Will/Elizabeth
Rating: G
Word count: 2,300
Warning: AWE spoilers, character death
Note: This takes place between Sole Unquiet Thing and Three Bells and Cockleshells, in which James takes Will's place as captain of the Flying Dutchman. You'll want to read those stories for this one to make sense. Thanks to [info]schemingreader and [info]concertigrossi for their help.
Summary: For fifty years, James has managed to forget that time was passing. Now he learns how long eternity is.

Projects DONE

Every year, I assemble some history columns I write and other stuff into a book (well, its comb bound, like an old-fashioned print 'zine) to sell to raise money for historic preservation. Because of the election, I had fewer columns in the local newspaper this year so had to do some serious fluffing to get a lousy 50 pages. I got it all laid out and DONE last night. It is off to be printed this morning.

Combination of tension and hunching over the keyboard, I have a terrible stiff neck and shoulders. I could use a good massage but I have to chair a zoning commission meeting at 11 this morning, followed at noon by a presentation to a local service club on flooding.

Maybe I'll nap instead of doing the ironing this afternoon. I'm sure the cats would prefer that.

WOOT it's LOOT!

Last night I went to a good friends for drinks *mmm Guinness* and nibblies *mmmmm stinky cheese* and chattering with a few ladies.

I got to talking with one of them about used items and it suddenly occured to me that I had not even THOUGHT to paw through our local VALUE VILLAGE for dolly-sized stuffs.

Went there today and OMG I was having a field day!

I got items for no less than 1/3, 1/4 AND 2 sizes of 1/6 dolls...as demonstrated by DUDE, WILLOW and PIKKU.

We have a fully functioning tent with flaps & with 2 sleeping bags I couldn't buy even the fabric to make for $4.00, a rocking chair for Willow, two cabinets with shelves and drawers (repainting will modernize them), some doll clothing including a velvet hat with holes for Willow's ears and coat to match, 4 pretty brass baskets just right for my big girls and garden furniture, bathtub, full length mirror and birdcage for my wee Pikku, Beer steins for the big boys, a brilliant little pewter, artdeco styled picture frame and what was not in the photo ~ lots of full spools of GOOD thread. I had to restrain myself >D

Doll things aside ~ I also scored no less than 11 PERFECT condition tea towels from the UK ~ linen or cotton ~ 9 brand new, all totally cheesy. After a few dozen washings they will make a great addition to the ones I use in the kitchen.

See ~ I am a vintage tea towel whore ~ LONG before Martha Stewart thought of it. While I use paper towels for things too unsanitary to keep, I use tea towels for everything else. They last YEARS. I probably go through minimum of 5 a day ~ with a hamper in the kitchen for the ones I won't use on food prep surfaces any longer due to soiling.

I'm sure they must have heard me WOOHOO from the front of the store, as I pulled towel after towel off the rack at the back! 99 cents a piece! *pumps fist in the air* YEAH BABY!

Whoa...misplaced a whole week

Not sure where it got to but I've been torn bouncing around between things in life, including polishing my ability to do nothing in particular. I'm very good at procrastination.

Much time spent shuttling people to and from appointments and lessons, but I've also tracked down winter coats for the teens (one had the original stolen and others' is a wreck) and I've got the neices and nephews Xmas shopped for ~ and finished the Sprogs' shopping is done too. It involved tracking down Bionicles & Lego of choice ~ and I'm really sick of teh toy sections of store which alternate between gun metal blue and bubblegum pink.

One of the things that I did while scrounging around for kiddie gifts was poke at the doll aisles ~ ever the opportunist and on the look out for clothing for various sized 1/6 dollies.

*points at piccie* ~ that blue girl there is AZUL ~ she wears Barbie sized clothing...cute little thing, but not why I posted the photo. The boys on either side of her are what amused me this week.

I love Obitsu for their infinate posability and the way you can interchange parts and mod them like crazy.

ANYway I'd found a NON offensive outfit on a Hanna Montana doll with the bonus that I liked the head (pink hair). So while I am waiting on a 27 cm obitsu girl body what else to do but try the thing on one of the slim male bodies ....neck is too thick for the head to sit well, but ~ ZOMAGOSH ~ instant trannies! What KILLED me was that the Barbie sized clothing fit the boys...WHAH??! *wicked laugh* this is going to be TOO much fun!

I am of the opinion that half the highend Barbielike dolls *coughTONNERcough* all look like crossdressers anyway. Might as well run with this a little bit since Ken Doll clothing is so scarce....although a kilt on a boydoll is just hot. *mind wanders in several directions*

The evil desire to make these guys table dancers for MONK is eating my brain too.

And no, I really don't have a life....why do you ask?

And to add to the whole mess

The young man who was the shooter had been a private contractor in Iraq. He came back and was suffering from depression but there is no support system for contract workers. He also brought back a very nasty high tech gun that he used in the murder. Got off 14 rounds in a matter of seconds with the impact of a rifle.

And my brother's cat, who they adopted when we were in residence waiting for this house to be livable, died unexpectedly last night although he was only 12 years old. He didn't come to dinner last night and when my brother went looking for him later, found him dead. The nieces are devastated.

This had better be one damn fabulous Thanksgiving! I need some serious turkey and pie!

Life Currently Sucking

A very sweet 26-year-old nurse whose mother I know well broke up with her 32-year-old boyfriend. Guess what? Her funeral is Tuesday and his is Wednesday. The young man who was in the parking lot with the nurse was only injured. Men. Alcohol. Firearms. Not a good combo.

A person I thought of as a friend has gone out of her way to stab me in the back professionally. I have no idea why. She went so far as to involve my state supervisor, who thinks I'm incompetent already so the 'friend's' assistance didn't help. IF I could find a decent replacement job, I would quit even though I love me job, it isn't worth the rest.

Property taxes due the day after Thanksgiving and it will be tight for money for Christmas. Not sending cards since my Christmas letter would be too depressing anyway.

Ugh.

Here kitty kitty kitty

KAI: I don't understand why you are so set on this course. What is it about that scruffy cat that attracts you so much? The musty smell of old books?

TUULI: It is the nature of my kind. Once The Heartsong begins to sing within us, we can not ignore it's call...he is the one.

Okay, time for some beefcake. This would be my eighteenth-century boyfriend, Norrington.

Fly guy

OH hey.....I dropped Kai on you the other day, while I mused on Kulta and I entirely forgot to show off pictures of him.

Naturally he arrived in the hour that I was out of the house and Bob gave me the *ARE YOU MAD WOMAN??!!* look when I returned home.

Well yes...that goes without saying, but I DID remind him that it took them about two months to make the doll after my placing the order so it's not like I ran out and bought him yesterday! Kai was paid for quite some time ago.

I'm not sure he believes me....and to be honest I wouldn't believe me either all things considered....but hey ~ I assured him that the USD vs CND is pretty well a guanrentee that I'm going to be a good girl for the foreseeable future.

ANYway....here's a bit of Kai

ANYway ~ after getting him dressed and clearing off my work surfaces I realized what I'd done....

Here we have one utterly CLUELESS kitty...

ART: Watchmen (Rated G)

Did this fast sketch of Rorschach from Watchmen in prep for something larger, and kind of liked it on its own. Since I'm in a spammy mood, I thought I'd show you.

By the way, if you haven't read the comic, this image is a big old SPOILER.

ART: Torchwood (Rated G)

Oh. Apparently I am drawing again.

I was telling somebody I don't do fanart for film/TV fandoms because of the likeness problem. But that really shouldn't get in the way - there's no reason I have to nail the likenesses. So I started fooling around with a caricature style that gets away from my uptight photo-ref approach. Here's a first attempt: my TV boyfriend, Ianto from "Torchwood".
